Hopkinton, Ma. is one of the 9 towns that make up Metrowest Boston. However, it is most known for being the starting point for the Boston Marathon. Hopkinton is a suburb of Boston located roughly 26.2 miles west of the city in Middlesex County, referred to as Metrowest Boston. Hopkinton is the corporate headquarters for the EMC Corp. as well.
Public and private recreational facilities in town include Hopkinton State Park, Whitehall State Park, the Town beach on Lake Maspenock, fishing, tennis courts, playgrounds, the Saddle Hill Country Club and the YMCA. Cultural events include the Hopkinton Polyarts Festival, Fourth of July parade and bonfire, and the summer concert series on the Town Common.

Hopkinton was incorporated in 1715 and gained worldwide attention in 1924 when the Boston Athletic Association moved the starting point of the Boston Marathon from Ashland to Hopkinton.
